Heritage Whisky Tasting was fabulous!
What a great way to kick off the holiday season…. a visit to the fireworks at the Tay Basin for the Festival of Lights and then a fabulous Heritage Whisky Tasting at the Perth Manor! This first whisky tasting event hosted by the Friends of Murphys Point and Heritage Mica Days was an opportunity to taste four single malts under the guidance of Brian from Ouidram, an independent whisky ambassador. The food served by the Perth Manor exceeded all expectations and even the most inexperienced connoisseur of whisky came to enjoy the intricacies of the different whiskies. Brian shared a wealth of stories about how Scotch whisky is made and the variations from different parts of Scotland. Local historian Susan Code kept us entertained with stories of the local whisky history – who knew that Perth was a hotbed of whisky distilling back in the 1800s! The band Cratur provided terrific music for us to enjoy throughout the event. And who can forget Perth Town Crier Brent McLaren who started us off with his own flavour of story telling for the evening.
If you missed this event, don’t worry. It’s happening again on Friday December 12th at the Fall River Restaurant in Maberly. Ouidram will be there with a different set of single malts to taste and enjoy. Advance tickets are required and are available through Tickets Please at www.ticketsplease.ca.

HERITAGE MICA DAYS VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Here’s another family volunteer team. Steph and Izzy Gray donated many hours during the summer of 2014 greeting visitors on the Silver Queen Mine trail and helping with the Junior Mica Miner program. Izzy is our expert Junior Mica Miner as the first person to complete the program! These two also contributed their time at our beach event on Canada Day (distributing Canada Day cake, a very important task) and could be seen helping at the corn roast held at the campfire pit. In addition to helping with Heritage Mica Days, the Geoheritage Tour and so many other program activities, Steph is also the President of the Friends of Murphys Point and has been providing her leadership skills there for many years. Special thanks to Steph and Izzy for your energy and support of Heritage Mica Days!
